This is one of the old one-room schools you maybe read about in the history books. All eight grades in one room!! Those teachers really had their hands full. The building is used today for the Ladies Aide and the Four H club that is still going in Perkinstown.
The bell tower is still in tact. Can you see the bell up there in it? I wonder if it will still ring--I'm going inside to see. Nope, I guess not. Someone cut the rope off way up so I can't reach it!! Darn!! I wanted to hear the old bell once more.
Here is the water pump that sat outside by the flag. now here it is sitting in the hallway where we used to hang up our winter coats. Every morning one of the big eighth boys had the job to take a water pail out and fill it with cold water. It was brought inside and placed on a table in the back of the room with a metal dipper in it. That was where we went to get a drink when we were thirsty!! Oh, yeah, all twenty five of us drank from the same dipper each day. No bubbler, no paper cups, just the old metal dipper. Oh, yeah, we did dump the water from our dipper into a slop bucket under the table!!! Sanitary, you say__what is that???
