Surgery day for Tim

Today is the day Tim has waited for -for 3 months. The reverse surgery went very well. Dr. Martin was real happy with the results. Tim came through with flying colors. As you can see, Charli plugged his laptop in already.He said instead of visits, he wants email or phone calls. He wants time alone to heal.
There is the guy taken only 3 hours after the operation. He was in surgery for 2 hours and recovery for 3 hours. Charli thought it was a couple days. He said to tell you all that he feels totally different this time- no tube in his throat, no drainage bag, no open wound!!He said this is gonna be a piece of cake!! He is in room 410B, so call and email . Dr. expects he will be home by the weekend.

My raspberries--July 24,2009

I picked a five quart pail-full today. The are so big, it doesn't take long. Compare them to my thumb nail, nice size huh?
Thought I would add a quarter to compare. They will be yummy come January.

I parted the bushes for a quick look- yep, they are ready to pick again today!! Lots more to come.

This is the patch by the garden. I have been watering every evening otherwise there would be nothing. The little old man that started these went to the nursing home so I salvaged six scrubby plants and moved them to our garden. He told me he ordered them from Canada so they must be pretty hardy. I don't know what the zone is there, but I think we have the advantage here, as they really are thriving.

Soccer Games

Charli Plays Soccer

Tim took me to a couple of Charli's soccer games.

Game is done. Gin has some good advise here I think. The kids really played a hard game. Makes me tired just watching them.

Charli said, "Take a picture of my shirt so they know my number."

Happy Birthday, Felicity

Today is Sunday July 19,2009 and Felicity Ziehlke is one year old. What a joy you are in our lives, Felicity. Your never-ending smile just makes my heart melt. We love you and will be watching as you grow through the years. Keep God in your heart and that smile on your face. Great Grandma Emmerich-- Oh, yes, We wish you a Happy Birthday too, Grandpa Brian!!

My New Passtime

In April I received a call from a friend that knows I knit and crochet. She asked if I would like to take part in a community service ministry making prayer shawls for people going through tough times. We meet once a month to compare patterns and share tips . After the shawls are gathered on the table, Father Gerrard comes and blesses them and they are ready to be passed to bring comfort to the receiver. He and Pastor Pete take some of them to hospitals or nursing homes. Also any one can request one from the church. Lots of them go to people battling cancer or any other illness .

This is Karen Firnstal, our leader, showing us one of the shawls she made this month.

Here are some of the shawls I brought to St. Paul's for Pastor Pete to hand out. What a warm feeling it is to wrap these around someone that is hurting. I just gave one to a neighbor here that had lung cancer and is doing chemo. I had my first encounter with prayer shawls last year at the Cancer Center where Dad was taking radiation treatments. There was a basket in the waiting room that had shawls in and one day a young girl, about 20 or 25 stopped and picked one up and wrapped it around her shoulders, cried a little and left. I thought - She could be one of my grand-daughters. A few days later, I was crocheting a shawl.

A couple of the ladies in our group. Sometimes there are 12 or 15 ladies around the table. The gal on the end with the orange yarn is always knitting all the while we are there- her hands never stop. She doesn't even have to look at her work all the time like most of us do. All the churches in Medford were asked to take part in the group.

We have been spending some time getting these goodies in the freezer for winter. They will be mighty welcome, come winter. Yummy

Where ever you go, what ever you do, enjoy the holiday. Visit with family and friends, have fun, catch some sun, (drink strawberry shakes), and cherish the day, and come home safe.
